Last month Natalia Biskupska of the LMMC Regional Centre in Southeast Asia attended the International Soil Conference 2015 on behalf of the LMMC project. She presented on the topic of “Livestock Manure Management Policies and Practices”, where she shared knowledge on the value of manure and importance of integrated manure management in improving soil quality and fertility, addressing the emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) from agriculture, as well as its role in enhancing food security and livelihoods. The presentation also included the findings from Phase I of the LMMC, and how we are now building on these in Phase II through targeted Opportunities for Practice Change.

The International Soil Conference 2015 was held from 18 – 21 August in Thailand to mark the International Year of Soils 2015 with a theme on “Sustainable Uses of Soil in Harmony with Food Security”. More than 400 participants from research, civil society and international organizations discussed about research and practical actions surrounding soil fertility, soil management, climate change, public participation, networking and policy implementation.

The conference, hosted by the Land Development Department of Thailand with cooperation from local and international organizations such as Asian Development Bank, FAO and International Union of Soil Science, provided good opportunities to expand networks and to support the enhancement of integrated manure management.
