Investing in Sustainable Livestock (ISL) Guide

The global livestock sector is asking itself a critical question: How do we contribute to the development of societies while promoting environmental sustainability?

To answer the question, the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have launched the Investing in Sustainable Livestock (ISL) Guide, an online platform that provides livestock project managers with the information and tools necessary to implement environmentally sound projects. Over time, the Guide will be augmented with sections addressing public health and equity aspects of sustainability.

Developed through a consultative, research-intensive process, the ISL platform offers structured guidance on how to embed environmental objectives into livestock investment projects. Users supply basic project parameters into the accompanying ISL Tool and receive detailed advice tailored to their livestock investment along with supplementary links to resources and tools.

The ISL Guide is useful for both the private and public sector, and for projects implemented in any of six major livestock farming systems.
