Donkey Sanctuary Joins Global Agenda

Working animals critical to livelihoods of millions worldwide

The Donkey Sanctuary CEO Mike Baker signed the Global Agenda Consensus Document on 8 March during a meeting with Global Agenda Chair Fritz Schneider and FAO AGA authorities at FAO headquarters in Rome.

While livestock policy often focuses mainly on food production, The Donkey Sanctuary highlights the critical role of working animals as a source of livelihood, income, security and social status, and to the attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

A global organisation working in 35 countries, The Donkey Sanctuary collaborates with intergovernmental organisations, institutions, governments, like-minded parties and individuals to advance animal welfare standards for working donkeys and mules in legislation, policy and good practices.

The Donkey Sanctuary will benefit from the Global Agenda’s focus on improving resource-use efficiency in the livestock sector, promoting sustainability and ameliorating practices through active cooperation, joint actions and dialogue.

Mr Baker confirmed that his organisation would participate in the Ethiopia multi-stakeholder partnership meeting.
